         Daren is a special foreign teacher because he has never said never so that we’ve created something special, something amazing and nothing impossible. We even finished a book, made a team and set up a sort of English environment.

Speaking of school-based foreign teachers’ curriculum, we, Yan’an experimental junior high school, were just freshman aboutone year ago. But now we have two school-based English books for foreign teachers. So my topic today is “Step by Step by Foreign Teacher”. Look at this slide. One of the books is called “Situational English for kids safari” for grade six and seven and the other one is named “Progressive English reading for SuperYou” for grade eight. Maybe some of you are wondering whether your school-based books are scientifically suitable for your kids. My answer is I don’t know, either but I know Daren enjoys putting the two books into practice and the kids like learning the materials.

Enjoying editing the books

First of all, I want to say we enjoyed editing the books. Certainly, the key words on the books are “situational” and “progressive”. We did a survey of our students and most of them think they want to use English to talk about their daily life such as how to say something about their school life, how to describe their favourite festivals and etc.As for grade eight kids, it’s high time that they are able to feel the beauty of some English words and read behind the lines. We provide students with some practical and popular topics. That’s why YASY started to give the two courses to further the students’ study. As we know, Students arewilling to say something about what they’ve learnt in Oxford English rather than being given entirely unfamiliar materials. Daren has worked a lot at it. He took a lot of Americantextbooksforreference. We worked with Daren to select high-refined readings with many interesting and useful pictures. Sometimes we even revised them several times to make sure they would be helpful to our kids.

Being proud of our team

About one year ago, we built a team called “TFTC”. Team for foreign teacher curriculum. The group is made up of the teachers from each grade. We used three periods every Monday morning to make full preparations for Daren’s lessons for next week. What most impressed me is Daren made different PPTs for different classes even in the same grade. Sometimes we chose different topics for different classes individually according to their learning abilities. Every week, we gave a public lesson to learn from each other so that Daren could get inspirations.

Gaining after class

Now our kids are the true fans of Daren because they even gained much after class. One day, Daren told me he thinks kids should not only learn how to use English but also know the culture and the art of the language. Therefore, he started to give noon English lectures to our kids, introducing his family and travelling experiences throughout the world. He gave us a lot of suggestions about the classroom expressions as well.

Getting goodfeedback

We are happy to get good feedback. About half a year ago, we have an open area outside the library that is useful for English corner and Daren hosted it. More and more kids are willing to talk in English there. Throughout the school, kids like to use English to greet teachers and classmates while teachers teaching different subjects would like to practise using English.

We are so lucky to cooperate with a foreign teacher like Daren. What he helps us to build is not just a curriculum but a kind of passion of working hard and teaching better. I hope we can further our curriculum, benefit our kids more and revise the books more scientifically so that the students here can get more motivation and fun. Students think Daren is a teacher who never refused never. Now we believe when we have Daren means wonders will never ever end.
