作品简介

One of the most spectacular historical finds of the last century, the Terracotta army consists of up to 7,500 soldiers, 130, chariots and around 750 horses. The soldiers vary in height according to their ranks, with the generals being the tallest. Each figure has individual features with hints of ethnic diversity within the army of Qin Shi Huang. They are unique. Not only are they life-size and individually modelled in clay, but the detail of the figures is astounding. We can observe the construction of body armour of terracotta army, with even the heads of rivets standing out, and also the soles of the shoes of the kneeling warriors are modelled with fine tread patterns .The terracotta army figures were manufactured in workshops by government laborers and by local craftsmen, and the material used to make the terracotta warriors originated on Mount Li. The head, arms, legs and torsos were created separately and then assembled. Studies show that eight face moulds were most likely used, and then clay was added to provide individual facial features. Once assembled, intricate features such as facial expressions were added. Their construction hints at modern production techniques strikingly similar to todays assembly lines. The find also gives us insights of the ethnic make up of the army, its organization, the clothes they wore, the weapons they used and their battle formation.
